      Abstract

Bamboo as a construction material offers a sustainable alternative with a lower carbon footprint, rapid growth, and high regeneration ability and low cost. I joist beams are structural components usually made of wood or panels so by replacing them with bamboo, strength and sustainability can be improved. This study aims to analyze the effect of diameter and height of Siamese bamboo on the physical and mechanical properties of I-joist beams. The study used bamboo diameters of 2 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm, with bamboo heights of 6 cm, 10 cm, 14 cm, 18 cm, 22 cm, and 26 cm. Physical properties testing includes moisture content referring to ASTM D4442-15 and density referring to ASTM D2395-22 while the compressive strength test refers to ASTM C365M-22. Based on the research results, it was found that different bamboo diameters and heights can affect the physical and mechanical properties of I-joist beams. Moisture content tends to decrease with each increase in diameter and height, density tends to stabilize at each diameter and height of bamboo, while in compressive strength as the diameter and height of bamboo increases compressive strength also increases.
