      Abstract

Pineapple, known scientifically as Ananas comosus L. is a popular tropical fruit available in Indonesia and is used in various processed products. Pineapple production produces significant peel waste, which if not processed can cause waste accumulation. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the substance of pineapple peel which can serve as the primary source for biogas production processing, as well as conducting experiments and observing the amount of biogas production resulting from processing pineapple peel. Analysis of protein, fat, carbohydrate, water, pH and temperature content was carried out to determine the efficiency of biogas production. Pineapple skin contains 14.74% water, 4.07% protein, 39.29% carbohydrates, 6.07% fat, 4.0 pH, and 33.35 °C. The fermentation process produces biogas containing carbon dioxide (CO2) dan methane (CH4). The methane content in biogas ranges from 55–65%, which makes it have a high energy content and is suitable for usage as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source.
