Indonesia is an agricultural country with an agricultural land area of 8.19 million hectares (ha), but the results of its production are inversely proportional. One of the contributing factors is the low efficiency of nitrogen (N) nutrient utilization by plants, which only reaches 50%. The objectives of this study were to synthesize CRF, evaluate coating characterization, evaluate N and Zn release, and determine the best formulation. The hardness test results showed that the coating of CRF was able to provide 1.45x better hardness. Particle size of ZnO and zeolite were ±1000nm and ±74 microns, respectively. The coated fertilizers are able to keep water in the soil better than the non-coated fertilizers, the synthesized CRF is able to control the release of Zn and N with the maximum release N, F1 until F4 is 36.63; 33.28; 23.21; dan 31.70%. For maximum release of Zn, only two formulations, F2 and F4, were 0.95% and 0.73%, respectively. SEM results showed F2 has the best pores and thickness. FTIR results showed that the synthesized coating contains polyurethane.
