      Abstract

Regional expansion is the result of regional development efforts which aim to achieve community welfare by utilizing various natural resources, human resources, institutional resources, technological resources and physical infrastructure effectively. However, regional development, especially accompanied by changes in land use and cover, can have a negative impact on environmental quality. The objectives of this research are (1) to analyze changes in land cover, especially the percentage of built-up land, (2) to analyze the availability of sub district infrastructure, (3) to calculate the environmental quality index and (4) to examine the influence of regional development on environmental quality in Bekasi Regency. The data used comes from village potential data and documents in Bekasi Regency figures for 2019 and 2022. This research was carried out using the land cover map overlay method, scalogram analysis and klassen typology. The research results show that the most land cover has changed to built-up land, namely 7287.55 ha. The District Development Index (DDI) tends to increase overall in Bekasi Regency from 9,7 to 10,43. The Environmental Quality Index (EQI) tends to decrease overall in Bekasi Regency from 10,49 to 7,57. Klassen typology analysis between EQI and DDI shows that most sub-district areas in Bekasi Regency are in quadrant II (high EQI and low DDI) at both points in the year, namely 39,13% in 2019 and 34,78% in 2022. Comparison between EQI and the percentage of built up area shows that in 2019 the most sub-district areas were in quadrant II (high EQI and low percentage of built-up area) at 34,78%, while in 2022 the most were in quadrant III (low EQI and low percentage of built-up land) namely 34,78%. Keywords: Regional development, infrastructure, built-up area, environment
