      Abstract

In this study, the colonization of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in soil in Bangelan Robusta coffee plantation was observed at two different locations with different plant ages, namely 49 and 10 years old, taken at a distance of 0-50 cm and =100 cm from the base of the stem to observe the variation of AMF genus, the number of spores in the soil, and AMF infection in Robusta coffee roots. A wet sieving method was applied to observe AMF spores in the soil. Sieves of 250 µm, 125 µm, and 63 µm were used to collect AMF spores from 10 grams of soil samples. Root infection was observed by the root staining method of Philips and Hayman. The results showed root infection by AMF at both plant ages. The trend of higher spore counts in soil was found in 49-year-old coffee plants compared to 10-year-olds. Higher root infection was found in roots collected from 0-50 cm from the base of the plant. Morphologically, the AMF genera found in robusta coffee plantations were Glomus and Acaulospora, while the number of Acaulospora spores was higher than Glomus. The level of AMF infection in Robusta coffee roots is relatively low, ranging from 20-30%.
