      Abstract

Excessive use of Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) and Aluminum sulfate coagulants can cause environmental impacts. This study aims to determine the right dose in the coagulation process of textile wastewater through the jar test method so as not to damage the environment. The jar test method can provide data on the optimum conditions for the dose of coagulant used, hydrogen ion concentration (pH), Color, TSS (Total Suspended Solid), and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand). The results of coagulation-flocculation using PAC showed a more significant decrease in parameters when compared to using Aluminum sulfate coagulant. PAC coagulant with a dose of 3000 ppm showed a COD reduction efficiency value of 51.88%, TSS 98.31%, Color 97.46% and TSS 98.95%. The efficiency value is higher when compared to the efficiency value of the same dose for the use of aluminum coagulant in textile wastewater, namely COD 12.58%, TSS 92.51%, Color 92.58%, and Turbidity 96.67%. The effective coagulant for textile wastewater treatment at PT X is PAC with an optimum dose of 3000 ppm. The use of PAC coagulant is very good for reducing or even eliminating the level of turbidity and color and can reduce the coagulant dose by 30-70%.
