      Abstract
      Bolivian Rainbow (BR) chilli has four fruit colours that changes according to its level of maturity development. This characteristic makes BR chilli suitable as ornamental pepper rather than consumed. This research aimed to analyze and calculate the heat unit in the development of BR chilli inside and outside the greenhouse. The development of BR chilli is divided into vegetative and generative phases. The average temperature in the greenhouse was 28.0 °C with a maximum temperature of 37.0 ºC. The average temperature outside the greenhouse was 26.3 °C with a maximum temperature of 41.0 ºC. The growing response of BR chilli outside greenhouse in this study was better than its response inside greenhouse. Too high greenhouse temperature was not suitable for the development of BR. Development stage of BR inside greenhouse stopped at FG6 phase with heat unit of 907 ºC. Development stage of BR outside greenhouse could reach until FG14 phase with heat unit of 1470 ºC. The concept of heat unit could not be used to explain the linear correlation between temperature and plant development if the temperatures were not within the optimum temperatures for the plant.
