      Abstract

Estimating the magnitude of runoff as a result of rainfall transformation is crucial for effective water resource management, flood estimation, hydrological modeling, land use planning, and climate change adaptation. The SCS-CN model is the simplest model for estimating the transformation of rainfall into runoff. One aspect that is difficult to generalize in the CN values is the amount of rainfall that does not directly contribute to runoff during rainfall events, known as initial abstraction (Ia). Other important information for estimating runoff using the SCS-CN method includes data on soil type and land cover. This study aims to obtain the best estimation of runoff by utilizing accurate data on land use, soil type, and the value of initial abstraction using the SCS-CN method in the Semajid Watershed. The research results indicate that runoff is closely related to the initial soil moisture, which affects the initial abstraction value. The value of 0.05S is the most appropriate value for abstraction. In addition to the initial abstraction value, data accuracy or scale also influences the accuracy level of the model. Data with lower accuracy, such as soil type data from FAO and land cover data from KLHK, achieved better accuracy levels.
