      Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a very deadly disease in the world which is characterized by high blood glucose levels. This study aims to examine the hypoglycemic effect of industrial extract of combination Cajanus cajan leaves and ginger (Zingiber officinale) in hyperglycemia-model Sprague Dawley rats. Extraction was carried out at PT Insular Multi Natural with 70% alcohol solvent and maceration method. The hypoglycemic effect was carried out using the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) method. Hyperglycemia conditions in rats were obtained by induction of 90% sucrose solution. A total of 30 male Sprague Dawley rats were used in this study, which were divided into six treatment groups, namely negative control/KN (aquades), positive control/KP (sucrose), drug control/KO (glibenclamide + sucrose), extract (doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW + sucrose). The results showed that the extract of combination C. cajan leaves and ginger had a hypoglycemic effect. Based on the profile of changes in blood glucose levels and the area under the curve, the extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW showed the optimum dose of hypoglycemic effect.
