      Abstract
      Lignin merupakan senyawa poliol yang dapat digunakan sebagai perkusor busa poliuretan karena memiliki banyak gugus hidroksil. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh jenis pelarut (dimetil formamida, dimetil sulfoksida, tetrahidrofuran, dan NaOH), konsentrasi lignin (3%, 6%, 9%, dan 12%), dan nisbah metilen difenil diisosianat (MDI) dengan larutan poliol lignin (1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1) terhadap sifat-sifat busa poliuretan kaku. Pengujian yang dilakukan yaitu: FTIR, waktu pengembangan, kerapatan, dan kekuatan mekanis. Hasil FTIR menunjukkan bahwa semua variasi berhasil membentuk ikatan uretan kecuali busa dengan pelarut lignin NaOH. Busa poliuretan kaku dengan pelarut lignin THF memiliki waktu pengembangan yang paling lambat dan kekuatan mekanis yang paling tinggi. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi lignin maka semakin singkat waktu pengembangan yang diperlukan serta semakin tinggi kerapatan dan kekuatan mekanisnya. Semakin tinggi nisbah MDI dan lignin maka semakin lambat waktu pengembangan yang diperlukan serta semakin tinggi kerapatan dan kekuatan mekanisnya. Namun, MDI yang terlalu banyak dapat menurunkan kerapatan dan kekuatan mekanis busa. Kata kunci: busa poliuretan kaku, isolasi lignin, lindi hitam
       
      Lignin is a natural-based polyol that can be used as a precursor in fabricating polyurethane foam due to the abundance of hydroxyl groups. This study aims to analyze the effect of lignin solvent (dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, tetrahydrofuran, and NaOH), lignin concentration (3%, 6%, 9%, and 12%), and the ratio of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) to lignin polyol solution (1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1) on the properties of rigid polyurethane foam. Furthermore, FTIR analysis, free rise time, density, and mechanical strength of the obtained rigid polyurethane foam were carried out. FTIR results showed that all variations succeeded in forming urethane bonds except foam from lignin in NaOH. Rigid polyurethane foam with THF lignin solvent had the longest free rise time and the highest mechanical strength. The higher lignin concentration produced foam with a shorther free rise time, higher density, and higher mechanical strength. The higher MDI ratio produced foam with a longer free rise time, high density, and higher mechanical properties. However, too high MDI ratio caused a decrease in the density and mechanical strength of the rigid polyurethane foam. Keywords: black liquor, lignin isolation, rigid polyurethane foam
