      Abstract

The common palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) is an animal used in producing civet coffee which is high in taste and expensive. This study was conducted to determine feeding behavior, feed preferences, and compare feed preferences in different age and sex classes. Observations were made on four young male and female palm civets at the age of 9 months, and adults at the age of 2 years in MB Coffee Captive Breeding. The method used is the continuous recording method which is carried out at 18.00-22.00 WIB for 22 days. Data collection consisted of 6 days of preliminary observation and 16 days of observation. As many as 1,487 eating behaviors have been produced, consisting of feeding behaviors such as sniffing, moving feed, putting it into the mouth, chewing, swallowing feed, drinking, and cutting feed. It can be concluded that from all samples the preferred feeding location is directly in the feed container, and the feed with the highest palatability is papaya fruit. Based on the scoring assessment, it was found that age class and sex did not affect the overall feed preference. Keywords: common palm civet, feed preference, palatability
