The cooling tower decreases the water temperature and is use as heat transfer device in which the working fluids are water and air.. Wood is used as the main component of cooling towers because of its various advantages. Pine wood is classified as strong class III and durable class IV with easy working properties. This study aims to determine the quality class of pine wood and produce values for the physical and mechanical properties of wood that can support the National Standard for using pine wood for cooling tower construction. The standards used are ASTM D245, NDS (2018), ASTM D198-05, and CTI STD-114. Testing mechanical properties was carried out by bending and compression tests parallel to the fibers. Physical properties are tested on water content, density, and specific gravity. Pine wood has three quality classes, namely, 1, 2, and 3. Based on the physical and mechanical properties data, pine wood is higher than Douglas fir wood, which means that pine wood in this study is suitable for cooling tower construction.id
