      Abstract

The people of Central Kalimantan have become accustomed to takes advantage some Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) such as medicinal plants, ornamental plants, fruits, sap, honey, and wicker materials. The people of Pasir Panjang Village also use some NTFPs from the forest, but only 0.3% of the total population takes advantage of the existing potential, especially NTFPs as wicker materials. This study was conducted to determine the value of wicker NTFPs economically and socio-culturally, so that their existence has benefits for the village community. The method that used to assess the economy was the Resource Rent approach. Economically, wicker NTFPs have a Resource Rent value of IDR 4,548,000 / year for Sendaas (Pandanus tectorius) and IDR 5,456,000 / year for Resam (Dicranopteris linearis). Socio-culturally, Resam (Dicranopteris linearis) which is used as the basic material for making bruta bracelets is considered a symbol of close brotherhood for the Dayak community. The existence of economic, social, and cultural values from the wicker NTFPs can support the preservation of the existence of forests in West Kotawaringin Regency, especially Pasir Panjang Village.
