dc.description.abstractTenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) adalah serangga yang diketahui dapat memakan dan menguraikan plastik. Kemampuan ini dapat terjadi karena T. molitor memiliki bakteri Citrobacter freundii, Serratia marcescens, dan beberapa bakteri lain yang dapat membantu menguraikan plastik. Penelitian ini bertujuan memelajari pengaruh pemberian tiga jenis plastik terhadap respons biologi serta preferensi kumbang dewasa T. molitor. Pengujian dilakukan dengan menggunakan tujuh jenis pakan, yaitu dedak gandum sebagai kontrol dan tiga jenis plastik berupa bioplastik, EPS (expanded styrofoam) dan plastik oxo-biodegradable yang masing-masing mendapat perlakuan penjemuran dan tanpa penjemuran. Respons biologi kumbang diuji menggunakan uji forced feeding. Uji ini dilakukan dengan melepas 10 kumbang dewasa jantan dan betina secara terpisah pada gelas plastik berdiameter 10 cm dengan tinggi 8 cm. Pengamatan dilakukan tiap hari hingga kumbang mati. Untuk pengujian pengaruh pemberian jenis pakan terhadap produksi telur, digunakan 5 pasang kumbang dewasa berumur 4 hari dan diamati hingga 10 hari serta dicatat produktivitas telur/betina. Preferensi terhadap jenis pakan dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji choice feeding. Pengujian dilakukan untuk melihat preferensi dan perilaku. Uji preferensi dilakukan dengan melepas 30 kumbang pada arena berupa cawan petri berdiameter 14 cm yang telah disekat menjadi tujuh bagian yang berisi 6 jenis plastik yang berbeda (dan kontrol). Pengamatan dilakukan terhadap jumlah kumbang yang berkumpul di masing-masing sekat setelah beberapa waktu yang berbeda: 30 detik, 75 detik, 3 menit, 5 menit, 10 menit, 24 jam. Percobaan ini diulang sebanyak 10 kali. Perilaku individu diamati terhadap kumbang dewasa seperti pada percobaan uji preferensi, tetapi hanya satu individu yang dimasukkan ke dalam cawan petri pengamatan dilakukan terhadap pergerakan kumbang pada 75 detik, 1 jam, 2 jam, dan 3 jam. Pengamatan tiap individu ini dilakukan terhadap 100 individu pada siang hari dan 100 individu pada malam hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lama hidup, bobot tubuh dan produksi telur dari kumbang dewasa paling baik ditemukan pada kumbang yang mendapat dedak gandum dibanding kumbang dengan pakan plastik. Dedak gandum juga menjadi jenis pakan yang paling diminati. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan 64% dari 100 kumbang pada siang hari dan 37% dari 100 kumbang pada malam hari memilih dedak gandum pada tiga jam pengamatan. Kumbang yang diberi pakan bioplastik dengan penjemuran memiliki tingkat kemampuan hidup dan lama hidup yang lebih baik dibanding kumbang pada pakan lain (kecuali kontrol). Keperidian tertinggi terdapat pada kumbang dewasa dengan pakan dedak gandum (17,15 ± 6,26 butir telur/betina) disusul oleh bioplastik (2,85 ± 0,900 butir telur/betina) selama waktu 10 hari. Bobot pakan yang dimakan pada kedua jenis pakan ini juga lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan jenis pakan plastik lain. Jenis plastik yang paling tidak dipilih adalah plastik oxo-biodegradable yang telah dijemur, yaitu hanya dipilih oleh 4 kumbang dewasa pada siang hari dan 2 kumbang pada malam hari dari masingmasing 100 kumbang pada 3 jam pengamatan.id
dc.description.abstractTenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) have been known as storage pests that can also eat and degrade polystyrene and plastics. This ability can occur because T. molitor contains the bacteria Citrobacter freundii, Serratia marcescens, and several other bacteria that can help break down plastic. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of feeding different types of plastics on the preferences and the biological response of adult T. molitor beetles. The test was conducted with seven types of feed, namely wheat bran as a control and three types of plastic in the form of bioplastic, EPS (expanded polystyrene) and oxo-biodegradable plastic, each of which was subjected to drying and no drying treatment. The beetles' biological response was tested using the forcefeeding test. This test was conducted by isolating 10 adult male and female beetles separately in plastic cups 10 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height. The beetles were fed ad libitum. Observations were made every day until the beetles died. To test the effect of feeding on egg production, 5 pairs of adult beetles were observed at 4 days of age and observed for up to 10 days, and egg/female productivity was recorded. The preference test was conducted using choice test by placing 30 males and female beetles in the middle arena of a-14 cm diameter petri dish. The petri dish has been divided into seven sections with each sections filled with 6 different types of plastic and control. Observations were made on the number of beetles that accumulated in each partition after different times: 30 seconds, 75 seconds, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 24 hours. This experiment was repeated 10 times without differentiating the sex of the beetles. Individual behavior was observed on adult beetles using the same choice test methods, but only one individual was placed in a petri dish. Observations were made on the movement of the beetles at 75 seconds, 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours. Observations of each individual were made on 100 individuals during the day and 100 individuals at night. The results showed that life expectancy, body weight and egg production of adult beetles were best found in beetles fed wheat bran compared to beetles fed plastic. Wheat bran is also the most popular type of feed. This is evidenced by the fact that 64% of 100 beetles chose wheat bran during the day and 37% of 100 beetles at night after 3 hours of observation. Beetles fed bioplastic by drying had better survival rate and lifespan than beetles fed on other feeds (except the control). The highest fertility was found in adult beetles fed wheat bran for 10 days (17.15 ± 6.26 eggs/female), followed by bioplastic (2.85 ± 0.900 eggs/female). Wheatbran and bioplastic was the two types of feed that was mostly eaten compared with other plastic feeds. The least selected type of plastic was sun-dried oxo-biodegradable plastic, which was selected by only 4 adult beetles during the day and 2 beetles at night out of every 100 beetles observed for 3 hours.id
