Karakteristik Habitat, Populasi dan Sebaran Tarsius Belitung (Cephalopachus bancanus saltator Elliot 1910) di Kawasan Bukit Peramun, Belitung
Abstract
Belitung tarsier (Cephalopachus bancanus saltator Elliot 1910) is one of
the subspecies of Western tarsier which is only spread on Belitung Island. The
animal is included in the CITES Appendix II list and the Endangered category
according to the IUCN Redlist. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the
habitat, population and distribution of the Belitung tarsier in the Bukit Peramun
area. The study was conducted using the method of concentration count and
vegetation analysis. Belitung tarsier habitat is secondary forest with an altitude of
110 – 150 mdpl and a slope of 0 – 8,33%. Vegetation species as tarsiers sleeping
trees are seruk (Schima wallichii) and pelpaks (Hydnocarpus sp.). Snakes and hill
husky owls (Phodilus badius) are tarsier predators, while their competitors are
geckos(Gekko gecko). Potential insects asfood for tarsier are crickets, grasshoppers,
moths, butterflies, ants, spiders, beetles, and dragonflies. The largest population of
belitung tarsier is 13 individuals, density is 0,536 individuals/ha or 53,6
individuals/km2 with sex ratio 0,71 : 1. The distribution of belitung tarsier is
widely found in secondary forest due to the availability of abundant resources and
gentle slopes causing the small number of predators in the area.
