Penentuan Harga Opsi Eropa dengan Volatilitas Stokastik Menggunakan Metode Monte Carlo
Abstract
In Indonesia, many investors are interested in investing in the financial sector, one of which is investing in various derivative products. Option is one of the derivative products that currently attracts investors. Option can be used as a means of hedging against the underlying asset prices.
The important thing in options trading is the determination of the fair price of the option, but in fact, the fluctuations in the stock price that occur in the market cause investors to experience difficulties in calculating the fair price of the options. One of the well-known methods for calculating the market value of European options is the Black-Scholes option price method developed by Fisher Black and Myron Scholes in 1973. In determining option price with the Black-Scholes model, there is an assumption that the stock return value follows a normal distribution with constant volatility. This assumption contradicts the research conducted by Gong, H., Thavaneswaran, A., & Singh, J. (2010) which states that the volatility of an asset is not constant but follows a stochastic process. The stochastic volatility model is an expansion of the Black-Scholes model which assumes that the volatility process will fluctuate within the limits of the minimum and maximum volatility.
Determination of the fair price of European options with stochastic volatility using the Monte Carlo method and the analysis of the effect of the initial stock price, strike price, and maturity date on European option prices are the objectives to be achieved in this study. One example of a stochastic volatility model is the Heston model, which assumes that the stock price process (S_t) follows a log-normal distribution, and the stock volatility (V_t) process follows the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross Process. This model is in the form of nonlinear partial differential equations that do not have analytical solution so that a numerical approach is needed to determine the approximate solution. In this study, the Euler-Maruyama method is used for model discretization, the ordinary least square method for the estimation of model parameters, and the Monte Carlo method for the numerical simulations
In this study, it is shown that if more simulations are carried out, the estimated results will converge to the analytical solution, or in other words, the error value in the solution will decrease. The Monte Carlo simulation results also show that changes in the value of the strike price parameter, the initial stock price, and the options expiration date affect the European option price changes and are consistent with the option price theory.
