      Abstract

Sycanus sp. (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) is predatory insect that can be found in a variety of habitats such as plantations, horticulture, food crops, and forestry. These predators are polypags because they have a wide range of prey such as Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Diptera, and Coleoptera. Sycanus sp. has such advantages as easy to develop in the laboratory, has a relatively long life cycle, and acts as a predator in all stages of development from the adult to the adult phase. This literature study aims to gather in-depth information on the use and potential of Sycanus sp. in the control of insect pests. The writing stage consists of problem formulation, data collection, analysis and synthesis as well as making conclusions and recommendations. The results of the literature study show that the success of pest predation by Sycanus sp. evidenced by a decrease in the population of pests Strepsicrates sp. in Melaleuca sp. in the Riau area. Another example of the use of Sycanus sp. namely on the cultivation of Acacia mangium which can reduce the damage caused by the pest Helopeltis sp. as much as 20%. From the examples of these cases, it is concluded that Sycanus sp. can be developed as a potential predator to suppress the population of various pests by paying attention to proper implementation techniques.
