      A comparative analysis of work values, job interest and willingness to apply on-farm occupation between IPB University and UPM students

      Abstract
      The diversity of values in employees is a big challenge for the organization. Currently students are born in 1998-2001 will enter the workforce in the next 2-3 years but are much less likely to choose farming as an occupation. This study aims to analyze the differences in work values among students in Indonesia and Malaysia to find out the type of work they enjoy so they can work in companies that are in accordance with their talents and interests, and the company can find out how much interest students have in working in agriculture. Descriptive statistical analysis and PLS-SEM (Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling) analysis was used to analyze the effect of work values to job interest and willingness to apply on-farm occupation. This study used probability sampling with stratified random sampling technique and got 217 samples from IPB University and 213 samples from UPM. The sample consisted of faculties related to agriculture. There are three same dominant values of Indonesia and Malaysia; work conditions, opportunity of personal growth and use of ability and knowledge in work. Same results from both countries is work values are affects job interest positively significant. The different is the affect of work values towards willingness to apply. In Indonesia, work values is not affects willingness to apply significantly, but in Malaysia is affects significantly. That is because in Indonesia job interest is more important to affects willingness to apply but in Malaysia work values is more important to affects willingness to apply. In Indonesia, dominant factor of job interest is colleague/ family influence while effect of learning is not valid in the context of job interest.
       
      Keragaman nilai kerja yang dianut oleh karyawan menjadi tantangan yang besar bagi organisasi. Mahasiswa saat ini lahir diantara tahun 1998-2001 akan memasuki dunia kerja pada dua hingga tiga tahun yang akan datang namun memiliki minat yang sangat rendah untuk memilih pertanian sebagai karir mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan nilai-nilai kerja pada mahasiswa di Indonesia dan Malaysia sehingga dapat diketahui tipe pekerjaan yang mereka minati. Mengetahui minat kerja mereka dapat meningkatkan produktivitas dalam bekerja dan mengetahui tingkat minat mereka pada pertanian. Analisis SEM-PLS (Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares) digunakan untuk menganalisis pengaruh nilai kerja terhadap minat kerja dan keinginan untuk bekerja di pertanian. Penelitian ini menggunakan probability sampling with stratified random sampling dan mendapatkan 217 sampel dari IPB University dan 213 sampel dari UPM. Sampel pada penelitian ini diambil dari fakultas yang erat kaitannya dengan pertanian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga nilai dominan yang sama pada IPB dan UPM; kondisi kerja, peluang untuk meningkatkan kemampuan diri dan menggunakan kemampuan dan pengetahuan di pekerjaan. Persamaan hasil pada kedua negara adalah nilai kerja sama-sama berpengaruh signifikan positif terhadap minat kerja. Sedangkan perbedaan hasilnya adalah pengaruh nilai kerja terhadap keinginan untuk bekerja di pertanian. Di Indonesia, nilai kerja tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keinginan untuk bekerja di pertanian, namun di Malaysia berpengaruh signifikan. Di Indonesia, faktor yang dominan pada minat kerja adalah colleague/family influence namun effect of learning tidak berpengaruh signifikan.
