      Synthesis and Characterization of Activated Carbon beads based on Alginate and Alginate/Carboxymethyl Cellulose blends

      Abstract
      This study used a clean and safe process for water pollution removal using bioplastics: alginate and carboxymethyl cellulose as addition composite and calcium salt as crosslinking agent. The synthesized activated carbon beads are encapsulated with alginate and alginate/carboxymethyl cellulose blends in order to low hazardous impact to the environment. The adsorption was investigated by measuring the removal of methylene blue dyes. Activated carbon beads which is encapsulated with alginate is more faster for removal methylene blue dye than encapsulated alginate/carboxymethyl cellulose activated carbon beads.
       
      Penelitian ini menggunakan proses ramah lingkungan untuk pembersihan polusi air dengan menggunakan bioplastik : alginat dan karboksimetil selulosa sebagai komposit tambahan dan garam kalsium sebagai agen pengikat. Sintesis aktivasi karbon dilakukan dengan mengenkapsulasinya dengan alginat dan campuran alginat/karboksimetil selulosa dengan tujuan untuk mengurangi dampak negatif kepada lingkungan. Adsorpsi telah diinvestigasi melalui perhitungan pembersihan pewarna metilen biru. Karbon teraktivasi yang dienkapsulasi hanya dengan menggunakan alginat lebih cepat untuk digunakan dalam pemberisihan pewarna metilen biru dibanding campuran alginate/karboksimetil selulosa.
