Abstract
African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is one of the popular fishes that cultivated in Indonesia. It contributes to the fulfilment of people nutrition need. African catfish can be processed into flour which can be further processed in to a variety of foods, including biscuits. The fish biscuits can be used as an alternative food to improve nutrition for the poor in Indonesia. The purpose of the study is to analyze the feasibility of an African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) flour and biscuit industry. The scope of the research includes a feasibility on the aspects of market and marketing, technology, management and organization, environment, legal, and finance. The potential markets of the fish biscuits are infants and toddlers having nutritional problems and disaster victim children. The targeted market of the fish biscuit requires is 8.653 children per year. The products can be delivered in two form: biscuits and mixed flour. This is equivalent to 3.115.080 biscuit chips per year and the mixed flour of 7.200 kg per year. The factory is located in Bogor and the production capacity is 3.120.000 pieces of biscuits per year and 7.800 kg of mixed flour. The total investment needed is Rp 884.335.000, including investment in fixed assets (Rp 687.775.000), and working capital (Rp 196.650.000). The NPV of this business is Rp 2.176.702.231. The IRR value is 61%. The net B/C ratio is 3. The payback period is 2 years and 1 month. These results shows that the catfish biscuit industry is feasible. The sensitivity analysis shows that business is still feasible under the condition of 30% price increase of raw materials and utilities and of 20% sales price decrease.
