      Lemak esensial yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh harus disuplai dari makanan. Sumber asam lemak pada umumnya adalah tumbuhan dan hewan yang masing-masing mempunyai kekurangan sehingga mengundang para ilmuwan mencari sumber lain, diantaranya mikroorganisme.
