Abstract: Problem of sea level rise experienced in several areas on the northern coast of Java, including coastal Batang, Central Java. In order to anticipate the impact of of sea level rise, spatial information about the physical vulnerability index in coastal areas is needed. The research was conducted from February to September 2013 with the study area is divided into a number of cells each limited to 1000 meters and 1500 meters from the shoreline landward. Coastal vulnerability analysis is based on the vulnerability of some physical parameters such as geomorphology, coastline change, tides, elevation, significant wave height and the average rate of sea level rise. Each of these parameters will be given later incorporated into the value of coastal vulnerability index using equation Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) of Gornitz and White (1992). The maximum CVI value is 9.13, the minimum is 3.65 and the average is 6.78. The CVI values then divided into 5 levels of vulnerability that is very low, low, moderate, high vulnerable and very high vulnerable. Total area of study is 5,5 ha, amounting to 0,45 ha (8,11%) of coastal areas Batang belong to very low, 0,9 ha (16,22%) are low vulnerability, 1,95 ha (35,14%) are moderate, 1,05 ha (18,92%) are vulnerable and the remaining 1,2 ha (21,62%) classified as extremely vulnerable. The variable that most contributed to the high level of vulnerability in Batang is coastline change.
