Abstract: Remote sensing is the most effective approach to map large coral reef area in comparison to conventional methods. However, applying remote sensing technology for detail mapping of coral reef habitat requires in situ spectral reflectance information of reef benthic substrates. The objective of this research was to analyze the spectral reflectance characteristics of coral and reef benthic substrates in Seribu Islands using spectrometer. Field study was conducted at seven sites in four reef cays of Seribu Islands in June 2011. Spectral reflectance curves of corals and reef benthics showed the similar pattern with two peaks near wavelength 575 and 600 nm. Cluster analysis resulted in four groups of corals and other reef benthics. Discriminant analysis revealed that 400-450 nm and 650-700 nm were the two wavelength spectra enabling to reflectance differentiation types of coral and reef benthic substrates.
