Abstract: Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. edulis) is one of the best commodities in Gowa. As a regional producer of passion fruit, which spread it in more region in Gowa such as Tompo‟ bulu, Tompo‟ pao, Tinggi moncong, Parigi and Bontolempangan, Gowa regency supplies passion fruit to major industries in Makassar and processing it. However, The manufacturing products which is done have a low competitiveness due to the lack of additional value of products, unvariety products, unattractive product designs, and market access. In addition, the stakeholders who concerned with passion fruit agro-industry development don‟t shown an integrate activity for development of the upstream to downstream. The low competitiveness of passion fruit in Gowa made the local society as suppliers and farmers of passion fruit in order areas and it gives no more advantages. It is also made Gowa regency as a passion fruit center not be known in markets. This study aim was to get the development strategy of passion fruit center in Gowa regency, South Sulawesi which joint the actors in a series of activity of passion fruit center which could make the additional value. Occurred the increase of competitiveness which gives effect for the economic increase of local society. The study was done in Gowa regency based on specific criteria which used in-depth interview methods, observations and secondary data to get the information which was needed in this study. The data, which was obtained from the actors of passion fruit agro-industry in Gowa regency, was analyzed used the qualitative chain-value analysis which to identify the actors who was involved, their connections, and the needs of the actors of passion fruit center. Diamon Porter was used to analyze the competitiveness which had by the passion fruit center in Gowa regency. Furthermore, Internal and external analysis was done which will use to formulate the development strategies by using SWOT analysis. The result showed that not all of passion fruit center in Gowa regency had interaction of the upstream to downstream and had SMEs passion fruit processors which were strongly influenced by availability of raw materials, the ability of society to process and utilize the potential of area which had it and the government‟s role. For developing of passion fruit to compete, so the activity was focused on integration of the upstream to downstream of the agro-industry chain-value of passion fruit in each passion fruit center. It focused on increased profit of actors especially for the farmer and processors of passion fruit. Increasing human source creativity, so it could compete with the other businesses. The development strategy center to increase the competitiveness could be done whith the cooperation between the passion fruit center in Gowa regency such as Parigi and Bontolempangan regency as the most cultivation centers in Gowa regency. They became suppliers of passion fruit raw material to Tombolo‟ pao and Tinggi Moncong, so the production process of many passion fruit processed products in their center could operate continuously. The exiting of cooperation between passion fruit center in Gowa reduced the external pressures (competitor), so the additional value was obtained by the actors of passion fruit center in Gowa. The other strategies which could be used were reduced the sales to external viii industry center and utilization of technology for increasing additional value by developing various derivat product of passion fruit, and also using the same brand for each product which was produced.
