| Abstract: | Crude palm oil is rich in carotenoids, tocopherol, and tocotrienol components. During processing into commercial cooking oil, major functional components of palm oil have degraded drastically. The objective of this study is to support socialization and education of crude palm oil (CPO) as a source of provitamin A. This study is a part of SawitA Program which was focused on the effects of CPO and unfractionated red palm oil (URPO) toward consumer acceptance and retinol concentration in human milk (ASI) in Neglasari dan Sukadamai Village, Dramaga, Bogor. Home Use Test (HUT) was conducted to 61 respondents after consuming two products, SawitA Gurih (CPO) and SawitA Tumis (URPO) during 2 months. Approximately 52% of respondents prefer URPO to CPO. Acceptability level of Sawita product had increased for daily usage. Average consumption of Sawita was 1,4309 g/cap/day. Average vitamin A intake from SawitA source was 163 RE/cap/day equal to 33% RDA. The analysis of retinol concentration in 6 samples of human milk was conducted using HPLC method. There is a significant increment of retinol concentration in human milk after SawitA consumption compared to initial state (p<0,05). |
