Abstract: The development program of Arabica coffee in Indonesia needs a large quantity of superior plant material. Recently the seed garden areas is insufficient to support this program. On the other hand the conventional vegetative propagation can not supply enough plant material. Therefore the use of in vitro propagation technique seems to be promising to solve the problem. Micropropagation through direct induction of adventive shoot followed by mu1tiplication of axillary shoot has been successfully done. The best result was obtained by using explant derived from sections of (whole) i'nternode of orthotropic branch cultured on media containing 2.5 mg/l BAP. At the same concentration BAP also produced the best result in the multiplication of axillary shoot. Elongated growth of adventive shoot was less than that of axillary shoot , the growth was inhibited by ' the addition of BAP at high concentration
