Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara perilaku makan, status gizi, dan tingkat demensia pada lansia demensia di Panti Muara Kasih Kota Bogor. Penelitian menggunakan mixed-method dengan desain konvergen paralel. Perilaku makan diperoleh menggunakan Appetite and Eating Habits Questionnaire (APEHQ), status gizi diperoleh menggunakan Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), dan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT). Pengalaman pengasuh dalam merawat lansia demensia diperoleh menggunakan wawancara mendalam. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan pada 14 lansia sedangkan analisis kualitatif diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan 17 pengasuh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perilaku makan pada lansia, meliputi kesulitan menelan (50%), hilangnya selera makan (21%), dan konsumsi bahan non-edibel (71%). Seluruh subjek diketahui mengalami malnutrisi atau berada pada risiko malnutrisi. Pada sisi pengasuhan, tantangan utama yang dihadapi pengasuh adalah hambatan komunikasi, dengan beban emosional sebagai faktor penyumbang stres. Strategi yang digunakan pengasuh meliputi pendekatan emosional dan relasi personal dalam merawat lansia. Analisis statistik menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara perilaku makan dengan status gizi (MNA dan IMT) (p=0.171, 0,106) maupun antara perilaku makan dengan tingkat demensia (p=0,135). Temuan ini menekankan pentingnya pelatihan bagi pengasuh serta pemantauan gizi secara berkala guna meningkatkan kualitas perawatan dan kesejahteraan lansia dengan demensia.
This study aimed to examine the relationship between eating behavior, nutritional status, and dementia severity among elderly dementia patients at Panti Muara Kasih, Bogor City. A mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design was employed. Quantitative analysis was conducted on 14 elderly participants using the Appetite and Eating Habits Questionnaire (APEHQ), Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), and Body Mass Index (BMI), while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 17 caregivers. Results indicated eating behavior issues, including swallowing difficulties (50%), loss of appetite (21%), and consumption of non-edible substances (71%). All subjects were identified as malnourished or at risk of malnutrition. On the caregiving side, the primary challenge faced by caregivers was communication barriers, with emotional burden contributing to stress. Caregiver strategies involved emotional approaches and the development of personal relationships in elderly care. Statistical analysis revealed no significant associations between eating behavior and nutritional status (MNA and BMI) (p=0,171, 0,106) nor between eating behavior and dementia severity (p=0,135). These findings underscore the importance of caregiver training and regular nutritional monitoring to enhance care quality and the well-being of elderly individuals with dementia.
