Mung bean is a legume with high protein content and other complete nutrients. Low mung bean production in Indonesia needs to be addressed by developing high-yielding varieties through plant breeding. This study aimed to obtain information on the genetic variability and agronomic traits, as well as to select F2 genotypes from VR60x129 with high seed weight. The research was conducted at the Leuwikopo Experimental Farm in Ciampea, Bogor, from February to April 2024. The study used augmented design within a randomized complete block design with four replications, testing the F2 VR60x129 population along with both parents. The results showed agronomic diversity based on the distribution of phenotypic values in the F2 generation. Broad-sense heritability was high (h2bs = 60,77–91,66%), indicating a greater role of genetic factors in controlling traits such as total branches, number of pods, pod length, pod weight, and seed weight. In contrast, it was low (h2bs = 0–13,52%) for plant height and number of productive branches, indicating a greater role of environmental factors. A total of 62 selected F2 genotypes with seed weight exceeding 1,41 g per plant were identified as promising candidates for the F3 generation. |
