Adolescents are in a stage of identity exploration characterized by unstable thinking yet a need to make decisions with confidence. Parental autonomy support and optimism play a role in this process. This study aims to analyze the influence of parental autonomy support and optimism on adolescents’ decision-making styles. A quantitative approach with an explanatory design was employed, involving 217 public and private high school and vocational school students in the administrative area of East Jakarta. The results indicate that both paternal and maternal autonomy support are positively and significantly associated with optimism. Paternal and maternal autonomy support, along with optimism, are positively and significantly associated with a confident decision-making style and negatively and significantly associated with avoidant and panic styles. Regression analysis shows that maternal autonomy support and optimism have a positive and significant influence on decision-making style. These findings underscore the importance of parental autonomy support and adolescents’ optimism in fostering adaptive decision-making styles in adolescence. |
