Phubbing is a social phenomenon that is increasingly prevalent among adolescents, characterized by the tendency to ignore face-to-face interactions due to excessive focus on smartphone use. This study aims to analyze the influence of parent–adolescent attachment, empathy, and self-control on adolescents’ phubbing behavior. The research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design and purposive sampling technique, involving 221 adolescents from MAN schools in Bogor City. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires. Data analysis included descriptive analysis, correlation tests, and influence analysis using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings revealed that most adolescents had a secure attachment with their mothers but an insecure attachment with their fathers, with empathy and phubbing behavior falling into the moderate category, and self-control in the low category. Female adolescents demonstrated higher levels of empathy compared to males. Mother–adolescent attachment decreased with increasing adolescent and mother age, whereas adolescent self-control increased with the father’s age. The influence analysis showed that parental attachment had a direct effect on empathy and self-control. Self-control had a direct effect on phubbing behavior, while parental attachment indirectly influenced phubbing through self-control. The study recommends preventing phubbing behavior by strengthening self-control and fostering secure attachment with parents.
