The presence of mercury (Hg) metal in domestic wastewater needed to be monitored because of the harmful effects of this metal. Determination of Hg in water was commonly done by using the oxidizing agent of permanganate by using cold vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. Oxidizing agent of bromate was used to reduce test samples and to shorten analysis time. Therefore, this study validated the method and compared it with the oxidizing agent of permanganate. The validation results showed that a determination coefficient of >0,995, repeatibilty value of <2/3 CV Horwitz, recovery percentage in the range of 60-115%, and LOD and LOQ below the Hg concentration threshold in wastewater, which is 0,005 mg/L. Statistical analysis of the robustness test showed F calculated < F table and statistical analysis of the ruggedness showed t calculated < t table. The results of the t test and F test show that the two methods were not significantly different. Based on these result, the determination of Hg levels in domestic wastewater could also use the oxidizing agent of bromate using cold vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. |
