This study aimed to evaluate the effect of supplementation of a combination of citronella essential oil (Cymbopogon nardus) and organic selenium in feed on carcass quality, commercial cuts, and meat and bone ratio of broiler chickens. The experiment used 240 Cobb strain broilers in a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Treatments consisted of a combination of levels of citronella oil (0 mL kg-1 , 2 mL kg-1 , and 4 mL kg-1 ) and organic selenium (0 ppm and 0.4 ppm). Results showed that supplementation of citronella oil and organic selenium had no effect on carcass weight, commercial and non-commercial cuts. However, increasing citronella oil tended to decrease the ratio of meat and bone of the lower thigh (P=0,06). The research concluded that supplementation of a combination of citronella essential oil (Cymbopogon nardus) and organic selenium in feed did not have a negative effect on the percentage of carcass weight and its components. |
