Sea cucumbers are marine invertebrate with the potential to be used as a source of biopharmaceuticals. They offer many benefits, one of which is their role as a source of antioxidants. The purpose of this study is to determine the best extraction method based on the yield value and antioxidant activity of sea cucumbers. The study involved several steps, including extraction using maceration, soxhlet, and microwave methods, followed by the analysis of antioxidants activity and active components. The percentage yield of sea cucumber extract using the maceration method was higher compared to the soxhlet and microwave methods, at 3.26% for Bohadschia marmorata and 2.91% for Holothuria fuscopunctata. Both species of sea cucumbers were found to contain phenolic compounds and steroid/triterpenoids. The antioxidant activity of the sea cucumber extracts showed weak properties in both species. The best antioxidant activity was obtained through the maceration method, with IC50 value of 625 µg/mL for Bohadschia marmorata and 897 µg/mL in Holothuria fuscopunctata. |
