Dandruff is an anomalous condition on the scalp, which is caused by a fungus called Malassezia furfur YPC12214. Shampoo sold commercially contain excess zinc pyrithione, making it dangerous for health. This research aims to create a shampoo formula made from natural ingredients, namely papaya seeds and neem leaves as an alternative to replace the zinc pyrithione content. The aim of the research was to determine the effectiveness of a shampoo formula using papaya seed extract and neem leaf extract against the Malassezia furfur YPC12214. The effectiveness test was carried out using the paper disc method to determine the inhibitory power of antifungal activity against Malassezia furfur YPC12214. The results showed that shampoo containing neem leaf and papaya seed extracts significantly inhibited fungal growth compared to not adding natural ingredient extracts. This research shows the potential of using natural ingredients in hair care products to treat fungal infections of the scalp, which can be an environmentally friendly alternative. |
