This research aims to analyze the influence of sustainable development and the abundance of natural resources on FDI inflows in 39 countries for the period 2002–2021, using dynamic panel data analysis with the SYS-GMM model. The sustainable development variable with the GDP per capita indicator has a significant negative effect in the short term in high-income countries and rejects the initial hypothesis. Carbon emissions (CO2) have a significant negative effect in the short and long term in low-income countries, and we accept the initial hypothesis. TPAK has a significant positive effect in the short and long term in low-income countries and accepts the initial hypothesis. HDI has a significant positive effect in the short term in high- and upper-middle-income countries and accepts the initial hypothesis. The corruption control index has a significant positive effect in the long term in the entire sample of upper- and lower-income countries and accepts the initial hypothesis. The natural resource abundance variable produces a significant positive effect in the short term in high-income countries and rejects the initial hypothesis. The results of the analysis using the dummy slope show that HDI and the abundance of natural resources have a significant influence in the short term on FDI inflows in developed countries. The implication of this research is that the host country government needs to apply the principles of sustainable development and explore natural resources in order to attract FDI. |
