| Abstract: | ABSTRAK SHEIKA SALSABILA SYARAH. Supervised by RAHMAT KURNIA of 1st supervisor and FERY KURNIAWAN of 2nd supervisor. The increase in carbon dioxide content in the air can lead to an increase in greenhouse gases, triggering global warming. Seagrass ecosystems are one of the coastal ecosystems that can absorb and store carbon. The process of carbon absorption by seagrass through photosynthesis is stored or channeled into several compartments in the form of biomass both above and below the substrate. This study was conducted in three locations, including conservation areas, residential areas, and tourist areas. The research method was quantitative and supported by secondary data in the form of dry weight values of seagrass species. The density and coverage of seagrass in Tidung Island fall into the poor and unhealthy categories. The types of seagrass found in these waters are Enhalus acoreides, Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea rotundata, and Halophila ovalis. The seagrass density at station 1 was 155.5152 ind/m2, while at station 2 it was 76.6061 ind/m2, and at station 3 it was 33.5758 ind/m2. The seagrass biomass was 2,400,000 g/m2 and the estimated annual carbon stock value was 1,008,000 gramsC/ha. The total carbon stock in the seagrass ecosystem on Tidung Island by 2040 will reach a maximum value of 97,713,707.55 gramsC/ha. The estimated total carbon increases every year, but over time it will reach a maximum point with no further changes in carbon storage. Keywords: biomass, carbon, seagrass, Stella |
