| dc.description.abstract | Essential oils constitute one of Indonesia's potential commodities for trade. However, the current potential of Indonesia's essential oils has not been fully maximized. This is evidenced by the low contribution of essential oil exports to Indonesia's total exports, which stood at only 0.1 percent from 2015 to 2022 in the global market. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyse the competitiveness, efficiency, and factors influencing Indonesia's essential oil exports. To analyse the competitiveness of Indonesian essential oil products, this study employs the RCA, EPD, and X-Model competitiveness analysis methods. Meanwhile, efficiency and the factors jointly influencing Indonesia's essential oil exports will be approached using the stochastic frontier gravity model analysis. The analysis using the RCA method indicates that almost all Indonesian essential oil commodities have competitiveness in 24 main export destination countries during the period from 2015 to 2022. This is supported by the average RCA index value being greater than 1, except in India and Italy. Furthermore, the EPD dynamic development analysis of Indonesian essential oils to trading partner countries identified that 31 percent of Indonesian essential oil products were in the lost opportunity position, 25 percent in the retreat position, 20 percent in the falling star position, and 24 percent in the rising star position from 2015 to 2022. On the other hand, the market position development analysis (X-Model) shows that, on average, 48.2 percent of Indonesian essential oil products are in the potential market development position, 19 percent in the optimistic market development position, and 32.7 percent in the less potential market development position. Export efficiency values indicate that the efficiency of Indonesia's essential oil exports to the 24 major export destination countries stands at 98 percent from 2015 to 2022. The average efficiency position of Indonesia's essential oil exports demonstrates a high level of efficiency. The SFGM Model estimation results also show that the variables GDP, partner country population, RCA, and price have a positive and significant influence, while economic distance and exchange rate have a negative and significant influence on Indonesia's essential oil exports. Additionally, the analysis results indicate that the variables Contig, Area, Business Freedom, and Investment Freedom collectively have a positive and significant impact on the inefficiency of Indonesia's essential oil exports. Meanwhile, the variable Financial Freedom is identified to have a negative and significant impact on the inefficiency of Indonesia's essential oil exports. | - |
