Ulva lactuca is a green seaweed that can be extracted to produce ulvan. While the residue from ulvan extraction holds potential as a raw material for bioethanol. Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) and peracetic acid (PAA) are environmentally friendly chemical compounds that can be used for U. lactuca residues. These alternatives can be considered for the efficient utilization of U. lactuca residues. This studied aimed to determine the effect of temperature/time combination of DES pretreatment with PAA on residue based on analysis, yield, whiteness, reduced sugars and functional groups. This researched included DES synthesis, material preparation, ulvan extraction, DES and PAA pretreatments. U. lactuca residue with DES and PAA pretreatment produced yields of 32.92-56.55%, and 24.64-41.73%, respectively with white degree valued of 44.49-57.44%, and reduced sugar 0.80-1.20 mg/mL. Temperature and time negatively affected DES, PAA yields and reduced sugars, and positively affected whiteness. Pretreatment could decrease lignin, hemicellulose, and cellulose concentrations as prove by waved numbered of 1627cm-1, 1160 cm-1, and 1030 cm-1, made it potential for bioethanol generation. |
