Arabica coffee is a type of coffee that has a high climate sensitivity, especially air temperature and rainfall. Both of these climatic factors can affect the quality and production of Arabica coffee. Estimating productivity with the input of climate variables is needed to see the effect of climate on Arabica coffee productivity, especially in production centers. This study aims to estimate the productivity of arabica coffee due to climate variability in the production center area on the island of Sumatra. Estimation of productivity in this study using a fixed effect model with climate variable input. The climatic variables used include average air temperature and rainfall in linear and quadratic functions. The data include climate data (1991 – 2020) and Arabica coffee productivity (2016 – 2020) in 30 districts/cities. The results from this study indicate that the variables of average air temperature and annual rainfall positively affect productivity. On the other hand, the squared mean air temperature and annual rainfall harm productivity. The results of model validation show that the productivity of the model results is quite good in explaining the actual productivity with an R-square value of 54.85%. The results of the estimation of productivity with the model show differences in the actual data where some areas have increased, and some have decreased. The comparison of actual productivity with the productivity of the 2019 model year shows that there are 12 districts/cities that experienced an increase in productivity, with the largest percentage change being in West Pasaman Regency with a value of 75.8%, while there were 18 districts/cities that experienced a decrease in productivity with the largest percentage of productivity decline, which was equal to -50.9% in Bukittinggi City. Meanwhile, the comparison of actual productivity with the productivity of the 2020 model shows that there are ten regencies/cities that experienced an increase in productivity, with the largest percentage change being in Sijunjung Regency with a value of 84.7%, while there were 20 regencies/cities that experienced a decrease in productivity with the largest percentage of productivity decline. That is equal to -55.2% in the City of Bukittinggi. Spatially, several areas have increased and decreased productivity, which are marked by changes in color with a range of changes in productivity of 0.5 – 1 ton/ha. |
