Oxyurosis in horses is an intestinal nematode infection caused by pinworms (Oxyuris equi). This study aims to calculate the prevalence and degree of oxyurosis in horses in East Sumba Regency. Sampling was carried out using a cross-sectional approach. A total of 65 samples were taken from 10 districts, namely Tabundung District, Lewa Tidahu, Nggaha Ori Angu, Ngadu Ngala, Lewa, Waingapu City, Karera, Wula Waijelu, Pahungga Lodu, Katala Hamu Lingu. Samples were examined using the McMaster method to determine the number of eggs per gram feces (EPG) and the simple flotation method to ensure the presence of worm eggs. The results showed that 18 out of 65 horses (27.7%) in 10 districts in East Sumba were infected with pinworms. The prevalence of oxyurosis in mares are higher (35.5%) than in stallions (10%). The oxyurosis prevalence in adult horses (36%) is not significantly different from that of young horses (17%). The degree of oxyurosis infection in horses in East Sumba Regency shows a low degree of infection with geometric mean EPG of 401,84 EPG. |
