The problem with the distribution of pineapple seedlings to various regions in Indonesia is that it is quite a long distance and many parts of Indonesia consist of islands. Ideally, long-distance seedlings transportation requires a packaging techniques which can maintain the quality of seedling, practical, lightweight and economical. This research aims to study the packaging technology of the tissue cultured pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) Seedlings to maintain quality during transportation period. This research was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), with two factors, which are the type of media and packaging. The first factor is media i.e.: without cocopeat, cocopeat 50 g + 100 ml water + Mankozeb fungicide 80%, cocopeat 100 g + 200 ml water + Mankozeb fungicide 80%, while the second factor is packaging technique, i.e.: single strimin, double strimin, and triple strimin. Transportation was carried out twice (round trip) through Bogor-Solo-Bogor route in 252 hours 33 minutes with 135 hours 20 minutes in transportation (non stationary) and 117 hours 11 minutes days in the room (stationary). The packaging of pineapple seedlings with strimin, cocopeat media, or without cocopeat can maintain the quality of the seedlings during the transportation period. All treatments can maintain the weight of the seedlings properly with low persentage of weight loss. In its application, transportation without cocopeat is the best treatment for its shipping efficiency due to having a lower total package weight compared to packages with 50 g and 100 g cocopeat. All treatments show no effect on reducing the leaves chlorophyll. The combination of 50 g of cocopeat and 2 layers of strimin is the best treatment for seedlings producers and farmers, it can maintain the quality of pineapple seedlings in minimizing damage during transportation, maintaining freshness of seedlings during the recovery process in the third week, and promoting rapid regrowth of pineapple seedlings.
