The objective of this research is to find out the optimum shade intensity for Arabica seedling growth. The research was conducted in Bogor Agricultural University Experimental Station, Cikabayan, Darmaga-Bogor, from May 2013 to February 2014. The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with three replications. The main plots were four shading levels, i.e. 25%, 50%, 75% and 95%, while subplots were five combinations of inorganic-organic fertilizers. There were 20 treatment combinations andeach combination consisted of 3 replicates. Therefore, there were 60 units of trial. Each units of trial consisted of 11 seedlings of coffee. They werearranged30cmx30cm away among the polybags . Three seedlings out of eleven were set as samplings. Shade intensity significantly affected to plant height, leaf number, stem diameter of 2-7 age MAT, the wet weight of the canopy and root length 4 MAT, wet weight and dry root weight, dryand wet weight canopy seedling age 7 MAT, thickness and leaf area of Arabica coffee seedling, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, SPAD value, stomatal number, closed stomatal, stomatal density , the content of N, P, and nutrient uptake of N, P. Variables that showed quadratic response that plant height (7 MAT), leaf number (5 MAT), stem diameter (6 MAT), leaf area (7 MAT), wet root weight, wet leaf weight, dry root weight, root volume, leaf area and uptake of P. The optimum shade obtained from this study is 65.58 %.id
