Abstract

Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi pemanfaatan ekstrak keseluruhan buah lerak (Sapindus rarak) untuk memperbaiki kecernaan nutrien, fermentabilitas dan performa sapi potong pada ransum hijauan tinggi. Penelitian menggunakan sapi potong lokal sebanyak 12 ekor dan ransum yang diberikan berupaa hijauan:konsentrat dengan rasio 70:30. Suplementasi ekstrak lerak dilakukan dengan 3 level pemberian yaitu 0, 100 dan 200 mg/kg bobot badan (BB). Paramater yang diukur adalah kecernaan nutrien, profil volatile fatty acid (VFA), konsentrasi NH3, konsumsi pakan dan pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH) sapi potong selama 90 hari percobaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suplementasi ekstrak lerak sampai level 200 mg/kg BB tidak mempengaruhi kecernaan nutrien. Produksi total VFA dan proporsi propionat meningkat (P<0,05) dan rasio asetat:propionat menurun (P<0,05), sementara konsentrasi NH3 cenderung turun dengan suplementasi ekstrak lerak. Konsumsi pakan dan PBBH tidak nyata meningkat dengan pemberian ekstrak lerak, namun pada level 200 mg/kg BB dapat memperbaiki PBBH sebesar 12,5% dibanding perlakuan kontrol.

This research was aimed to investigate the utilization of whole lerak extract to improve the nutrient digestibility, fermentation, and performance of beef cattle fed with high forage based ration. Experimental diet composed of forage (70%) and concentrate (30%). The in vivo study was conducted using 12 local beef cattle. Three different levels of lerak extract of 0, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight (BW) were added to the diet. Parameter measured were nutrient digestibility, volatile fatty acid (VFA) profile, NH3 concentration, feed intake and daily gain of beef cattle during 90 days of feeding trial. The addition of lerak extract up to level 200 mg/Kg BW did not affect nutrients digestibilities. Total VFA and propionate proportion increased (P<0.05) and ratio of acetate:propionate decreased (P<0.05) with the addition of extract lerak. Concentration of rumen NH3 tended to decrease. There was no significant difference on feed intake and daily gain of local beef cattle fed high forage ration with addition of lerak extract at level up to 200 mg/kg BW, but daily gain tend to increase up to 12,5% compared to the control treatment.
