This study was conducted to observe caladium performance resulted from gamma irradiation, to determine LD50 of each variety of caladium seedling, and to obtain potential mutant to be developed in the future. Research was carried out in Kayumanis, Bogor from September 2007 till February 2008. Irradiation performed at BATAN Pasar Jumat, Jakarta. Research using completely randomized design with two factor namely four varieties of caladium (Candidum, Sweet Heart, Pink Beauty and Miss Muffet) and eight doses of irradiation (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 gray). At each dose consisted of 10 plants, so there were 280 plants in total. The result showed that the higher dose of gamma irradiation was applied, the more inhibition happened on plant height and leaf number, length and width. LD50 obtained for varieties of Caladium spp. were 61.80 Gy for Candidum, 80 Gy for Sweet Heart, 113.39 for Pink Beauty and 37.35 for Miss Muffet. Mutants resulted from this research were albino mutant, dwarf mutant, curly mutant, plain green mutant, leave plant malformation, mutant with purplish leave, mutant with tubular leave, and mutant with dark green strip on leaf surface.en
