      Abstract

ABSTRACT. Mineral is an essential factor in the body that takes important roles that differ to each other in metabolism system, such as enzyme cofactor in biochemical reaction and hormone synthesis. An excess or deficiency of minerals element could cause disease. Therefore determination of minerals element become important to be done. INAA (instrumental neutron activation analysis) is an analysis technique with low limit detection and multi-element analysis. Validation is needed to observe the accuracy and precision of the result by INAA method. This validation was done using SRM NIST (Standard Reference Material National Institute of Standard Technology) 1573a Tomato Leaves and 1577b Bovine Liver. The validated elements were Se, Cr, Co, and Zn. INAA method produced good quality data for these four elements; relative bias less than about 20%, U-test score less than 1,95, Z-score data were acceptable for confidence interval of 95%, and also acceptable on precision and accuracy test. Validation was determined by using statistical equation according to IAEA. The limit of detection for these four elements was also determined. The results were Se 0.165 mg/kg, Cr 0.426 mg/kg, Co 0.0765 mg/kg, and Zn 0.460 mg/kg. This method is possible to be use for the determination of Se, Cr, Co, and Zn on biological sample such as blood. Key words: INAA, essential elements, biological sample
