| dc.description.abstract | The dominant fishing gear used by fishermen of North Halmahera are fishing yield, multiple hand line, gill nets, etc., using a fleet of boats is simple until a boat or ship with a capacity of 10 gross tonnage. However, the use of destructive fishing gear, the environment still numerous in some areas of North Halmahera waters such as the use of bombs. This research is to reveal the root cause of the fishermen still use the bomb in fishing activities. This research was conducted by survey method, and assisted with spreading the field a question to a number of respondents who specified a purposive sampling method. Fishermans at 3 study sites classified as a major sideline fishermans and fishermans additional sideline. In fishing, equipment used was simple and limited. Similarly, the boat used to sail a traditional still relatively small size. This has implications for the amount and type of catch that more and more reduced, so that income derived by a relatively small fishermen. The small income derived to meet the needs of families of fishermans caused them to use the bomb as the completeness of fishing gear. The use of bombs in fishing according to various circles who have been doing research is an act that is very damaging to the environment. T he use of bombs in the sea can cause damage to coral colonies around the blast site, also can cause death of other organisms that are not the target of an arrest. This activity has been carried out by fishermans in three villages in a long time. The results of this study explains that: (1) The main reason fishermans using bombs in fishing activities is to raise revenue to meet the needs of families, (2) The factors that affect the fishermans using bombs is the length of experience of using the bomb and ease the material needed to make fish bomb, and (3) Education is a very strong factor affecting fishermans not to use bombs in fishing. | en |
