      Abstract
The effect of DL-methionine supplementation on the broilers performance was determined using 1000 broilers strain Ross 308. The chicks were reared from 0-42 days of age. Ten experimental rations used in feeding trials, namely: a) Broiler starter diets: deficient in methionine diet without addition DL-methionine (SO), deficient in methionine with DL-methionine addition at level of 0.2% (S1). 0.25% ($2), 0.3% (S3) and 0 35% (S4); b) Broiler finisher diets: deficient methionine diet without addition DL-methionine (F0), deficient methionine diets with DL-methionine addition at level of 0.15% (F1), 0.20% (F2), 0.25% (F3) and 0.30% (F4). Statistical analysis performed on Completely Randomized Design. Addition of DL-methionine to the basal diets significantly improved (P<0.01) feed intake and weight gain but it did not effect feed conversion. Addition of DL-methionine improves feed conversion as 1.3; 2.63; 2.63 arid 4.60% respectively for S1, S2, S3 and S4 when compared to the basal diet. During finisher period, addition of DL methionine significantly improved (P<0.01) weight gain and feed convertion, but it did not effect feed intake. Addition of DL-methionine improved feed intake as 6.36; 9.21; 5.47 and 6.56% respectively for F1, F2, F3 and F4 when compared to the basal diet. It is concluded that the supplementation of 0.25% DL-methionine to the starter period and 0.2% DL-methionine to the finisher period is the most effective in improving performance of broilers.
