| dc.description.abstract | Kayambang (Salvinia molesta) is an aquatic weed which grow relatively fast. Kayambang contained 15,90% crude protein, 17,21% crude fibre and 2,200 kcal/kg metabolizable energy. Digestibility is one of the important things to determine the nutritive value of feed. The objective of this experiment was to measure the digestibility of dry matter, crude fibre, cellulose and hemicellulose of kayambang on local duck. This experiment was carried out at Poultry Nutrition Laboratory and Feed Technology and Science Laboratory, Department of Nutrition and Feed Science, Faculty of Animal Science, Bogor Agricultural University. This experiment used 12 male local ducks with 4 months of age and kayambang powder as single feed. The method of experiment was modification of King et al. (1997) and Adeola et at. (1997) methods. Parameters observed in this experiment were: intake of dry matter, crude fibre, cellulose and hemicellulose, exretion of dry matter, crude fibre, cellulose and hemicellulose, degistibility of dry matter, crude fibre, cellulose and hemiccllulose. The mean value of dry matter digestibility of kayambang was 26.49 ± 7.97%. Digestibility value of crude fibre of kayambang was 54.33 ± 9.47%. That value was 15.43% higher than that of adult cockerels (38.99 ± 19.94%). Digestibility value of cellulose of kayambang was 5.28 ± 13.16%. It showed that cellulose did not serve as energy source for the ducks. Digestibility value of hemicellulose of kayambang was 66.67 ± 26.66%. It proved that local ducks were able to use hemicellulose of kayambang as the source of energy. From the digestibility value of dry matter, crude fibre, celulose as well as hemicellulose, it can be concluded that kayambang is potential as feed for local ducks. | en |
