An experiment was conducted at the Primate Research Center from March till June 1999. The purpose of this experiment was to compare imported diet to the local ones and to study the effect of its performances on long tail monkeys (Maccaca fascicularis). The animals used in this experiment were 18 females of Maccaca fascicularis with average body weight ranging from 1.9-2.8 kg, and age ranging from 4-5 years old. Completely randomized design was used in this experiment with three treatment diets, i.e: Imported Diet (Rl), Local Diet I (R2), and Local Diet II (R3) with six replicates for each treatment diet. The R3 treatment was different from the other two diets in its physical texture which was relatively fresh and soft. Data was analyzed using ANOVA and further tested with Duncan's test if the treatment gave significant results. The result showed that R3 gave the highest feed consumption and the highest body weight gain as compared to those of Rl and R2. Moreover the treatment R3 showed the lowest diet cost as compared to those of R1 and R2 which were Rp. 10.000,- , Rp. 17.000,- and Rp. 13.000,- respectively.en
