dc.description.abstractFood are basic needs for human being and they politically often becomes a strategic commodities. Therefore, a study on food availability is interesting. A study was carried out in DKI Jakarta to observe a profile of fruits demand and family expenses. Data were collected from National Social-Economics Survey in 1993. 1996, and 1999. The families were grouped according to the family expenses into inferior (< Rp 500 000 per month), medium (Rp 500 000 - 1 500 000 per month) and high (>Rp 1 500 000 per month) class families- The result showed that there was differences in fruits preferences among family groups The inferior families most prefer to banana followed by papaya, rambutan and apple. The medium families class also most prefer to banana, but followed by apple, papaya, and rambutan. On the order hand, the high class families most prefer to apple rather than other fruits The three groups families have a less preferences in mango, salak, and pineapple.en
